BGI CEO Ian Mitchell


Ian is our CEO taking BGI on its scale up journey. He works very closely with business leaders providing the right strategies, tools and insights to deliver successful results.

When not focusing on business development, Ian dedicates his time to finding the best talent to deliver BGIs vision. A key component to this is attracting practitioners with the gravitas and respect of fellow entreprenuers, who have scaled their own businesses. He obsessively looks for ways to bring creative communication, automation and data insights to make our clients and practitioners more effective.

Ian is from an entrepreneurial family, where business was regularly discussed over the kitchen table. This rubbed off as he set up several of his own businesses, the first of which was from a humble garage in Bow. Over the last 18 years Ian has successfully scaled his businesses through focussed organic growth and acquisitions. In 2018 he sold his businesses to VC, PE and fellow trade organisations. 

Ian has an MSc from Bristol University in Macro Economics, Development Administration and Planning. He went on to consult for the Overseas Development Administration helping SMEs in Kenya and The Body Shop International, working closely with Anita and Gordon Roddick on Indigenous Intellectual Property Rights.

Ever the opportunist and adventurer,  he sailed a yacht to India, travelled around Central America in the 1990's and drove a Land Rover across Southern Africa. Ian has a great family around him and an amazing wife who has supported him through thick and thin. Ian desperately tries to keep up with his daughters on the tennis court and follows his passions for sailing, triathlons, photography and sampling the odd pint with anyone willing to put up with his under par jokes.
